Get Outside

Yes, we really are telling you to go outside in the middle of the winter! Did you know that there are physical and mental health benefits to going outside? Just because it's cold out doesn't always mean you need to hide away indoors.  Plus, a new year means new resolutions! What better way to kick start your 2024 than a hike in the great outdoors? There are several guided hikes on New Year's Day offered by both Berks Nature and Blue Marsh Lake Trail that are sure to get your blood pumping. Lace up your hiking boots, snuggle into a warm jacket, and get moving!

Had one too many? If you're still recovering from New Year's Eve and are maybe not feeling the hike on the 1st, there is still an entire chilly month ahead to enjoy the outdoors. Berks County is full of diverse landscapes that offer outdoor activity year-round. Whether you want to hike, bike, or are just ready to get some fresh air and a great view, there's a park for you. Check out our Outdoors page to start planning your next adventure.

Head to the Theatre

Maybe you're not much of an outdoorsy person or need a break from the cold. Pennsylvania's Americana Region has lots of opportunities to catch a film. View selected showings through an immersive 3D experience while listening to the best in Digital Surround Sound at the IMAX or enjoy a meal at the AMC for a Dine-In experience. If you are looking for old-time ambiance and pricing, the Hamburg Strand is a must. GoggleWorks' Boscov's Theatre specializes in art and independent films that are well worth checking out.

Enjoy Live Entertainment

Santander Arena & Performing Arts Center is always a good spot to see live entertainment and your favorite performers. This month, see the World Championship Ice Racing Vengeance Tour, former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Pete Davidson, stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze, a tribute concert for Elton John and Billy Joel, and several other awesome shows. Spend a nice night out with friends and family while staying warm!

Explore New Exhibits

The Reading Public Museum is saying goodbye to some of its temporary exhibits this month. But have no fear! Some great new exhibits and collections will be arriving: Nature All Around Us and Danny Lyon: Memories of the Southern Civil Rights Movement. What a great opportunity to learn something new this New Year!
