From tried and true annual events to exhibits and entertainment that happen to be in town, October in Pennsylvania’s Americana Region offers non-stop fun.  The month begins with one of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in the country and ends with A FILM FESTIVAL. In addition to all the scheduled festivities, it’s prime time to experience our amazing outdoor activities. The Reading Liederkranz began as a German singing club in 1885. Here we are, over 130 years later, and the Liederkranz continues to uphold German traditions through language, culture, food, sports and family. Not only is their Oktoberfest the oldest and most authentic celebration in Pennsylvania, it placed first in USA Today 10Best Oktoberfests in 2015 and 2017. If you want to experience Oktoberfest, but can’t get to Germany, this family-friendly event is just the ticket!

Who knew there was so much to do way back when...the 38th Annual Heritage Festival brings the past to life with an abundance of activities for all to enjoy. Attendees can take in the demonstrations and exhibits, musical entertainment, crafts and tours of the Hiester Canal Center, Gruber Wagon Works, and Melcher’s Grist Mill.  Admission to the event is free, however,a $5 parking fee is politely requested.

Boyertown’s Pickfest Music/Art & Agriculture Crawl is a favorite of folks near and far. The free festival celebrates all Boyertown has to offer, from its rich hertiage and agricultural significance to its thriving artistic community and nationally recognized historical rail line. To top it off, Pickfest provides days of incredible musical entertainment. So much to do, in so little time!

IBerks History Center's 4 Centuries in Berks Historic Property Tour is celebrates the architectural styles of Berks County's historical and contemporary culture by providing a look inside the private homes throughout the region.  Now in its 14th year, this year’s tour explores the architectural treasures and history of Wyomissing, a planned community dating back to 1896. The tour gives participants exclusive access to nine historic properties in the borough dating from the 18th through 21st centuries. Tickets: $35.00

Talk about two-for. The Reading Public Museum's current traveling exhibits include Arthur's™ World and Cut! Costume and the Cinema. Kids of all ages will enjoy visiting with America's favorite aardvaark, Arthur Read. Based on PBS children's television series, the exhibition includes Mr. Ratburn’s classroom, Elwood City Library and lots of interactive things to do. Cut! Costume and the Cinema invites visitors to get a close-up view of beautifully detailed and exquisite costumes worn by the likes of Natalie Portman, Kiera Knightley, Johnny Depp, Heath Ledger and more. Definitely a great way to spend the day.
