You Can’t Be A Couch Potato in PA’s Americana Region!

Well, the holiday rush has died down and all the decorations are put away…now what?  What are we going to do for the next 2 months of cold, dark weather.  I want to hibernate, but that’s not my nature.
I need to be entertained and active…not stuck in the house. I’m the kind of person who has a to-do list, even on the weekends, or I’m totally lost.  So here’s mine…it might help you kick the winter blues.

My first stop is always the events calendar at visitpaamericana.com. Everything I need to know to keep me busy and off the couch at home can be found there.  You can always find exciting things to do; some things are free, and others really reasonable priced. There is so much variety too -  throughout Pennsylvania’s Americana Region, from ice hockey games, to art shows, festivals, and concerts…you will absolutely find something to liven you up. The Santander Arena and Performing Arts Center has something going down practically every weekend and even during the week.  Match that up with a trip to a winery, or what-the-heck, all of them, Manatawny Winery, Folino Estates,
Setter Ridge Vineyards, Clover Hill, and those cold days start to disappear quickly. The nose gets a little red too!  Now we’re starting to warm up.

Feel like bundling up?  I know I enjoy a hike during the cold weather.  The clean, fresh air is so exhilarating and really makes you sleep well at night. We usually head out to Blue Marsh Lake, or Nolde Forest.  I’ve actually had the chance to see a bald eagle flying high at Blue Marsh... so thrilling!

Really adventurous?  Maybe you want to try the ski slope. That’s right, we have everything in Berks County, Pennsylvania’s Americana Region, which makes it fun to live and visit here.  Driving up to Bear Creek Ski Resort, you are in awe as you come over the knoll and everything lights up.  Staying overnight is a real threat… so much to do and it is definitely a mini-vacation.  Even if you don’t ski, there is a spa, hot tub, snowtubing and a restaurant where you can sit and watch all the action on the slopes.  It’s fun to snuggle in front of a fire and sip on a brandy or two.

If you are more the indoor type, check out the museums that cover science, history, art, railroads, antique automobiles and planes.  It is really fun to take the kids and just stroll around.  There are so many unique things to learn about that you will never get bored.

Whatever your plans… just know that winter goes much quickly when you visit a great destination like Reading, Berks County in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Americana Region.
