The Schuylkill River Trail is a low-grade and firm multi-use trail for biking, hiking, commuting, and cross-country skiing along the Schuylkill River. Of the trail’s planned 120 miles, 75 are open to enjoy between Philadelphia to the east and Schuylkill County to the west. The longest stretch is a 35 mile trail piece from Philadelphia to Parkerford where the trail currently ends. No worries, you can pick it up again in Pottstown where it continues as the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area’s Thun Trail right into the heart of Reading. From there, cyclists can follow a 20-mile signed on-road route to Hamburg. In Hamburg, trail users can access the Greenway’s scenic seven-mile Schuylkill River Trail’s Bartram Section through the Kittatinny Ridge to Auburn in Schuylkill County.

With several locations throughout Berks County to pick up the trail, you won’t be at a loss for a beautiful scenic excursion whether on bike, foot, or horseback. The trail is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, exercise, commute, and link to other numerous trails in the Greater Reading area.
