The Library is over 250 years old and has served the community since.  In 1763 and a group of men in a at Widow Drury’s Tavern got together to discuss the first English language library in Reading, PA. The library officially opened to subscription holders on February 12, 1764, in the Reading residence of James Whitehead, who is considered the first librarian.
