Discover the roots of the region’s culture at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University, an open-air museum and research center dedicated to celebrating and promoting the folk culture, language, and traditions of the Pennsylvania Dutch. Located on the 19th-century Sharadin farmstead, the museum captures the spirit of the region’s rural heritage with a fully-restored one-room schoolhouse, an early stone farm house and summer kitchen, a kitchen garden, a classic bank-barn decorated with elaborate stars, and two log houses. The Heritage Center Library is available for genealogical and cultural research, and the site is home to three seasonal celebrations each year, Heemet Fescht, Christmas on the Farm, and Easter on the Farm, all featuring folklife demonstrations and traditional arts. Tours are available by appointment, so call to schedule your visit today!
