Dating can be challenging, and the pandemic’s social distancing recommendations haven’t made things any easier. With so many event cancellations and restaurants and attractions at limited capacity, you may have to rethink your date ideas. Fortunately, you’re in the right place.

Pennsylvania’s Americana Region offers many unique, local spots for people to safely get to know one another, whether it’s a first date or a night out to celebrate a wedding anniversary.

See a Show

Dinner and a movie have long been a popular date choice for couples. No doubt, the temporary closure of movie theatres dampered many a date night plan. We’re happy to report the Fox Berkshire recently reopened and is recognized as a CinemaSafe theatre. The theatre reduced its seating capacity and enforces safety protocols that include social distancing, mask-wearing, enhanced cleaning procedures, and health checks for all employees.

The Goggleworks Center for the Arts has put a whole new spin on traditional movie viewing by offering Private Movie and Video Gamer packages. Both promotions offer small groups the entire Albert and Eunice Boscov Film Theatre to screen popular movies or to hook-up a game console to the 40-foot screen, complete with surround sound. Concessions are available for purchase, including: popcorn, candy, soda, wine, and beer .

Not to be overlooked is Movie Night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Weather permitting, grab some lawn chairs and blankets and head to the stadium. For a nominal admission fee, the public is invited to watch favorite films under the stars on the ballpark’s huge video board while enjoying tasty stadium foods and drinks. This might just be the perfect first date - casual, inexpensive and fun!

Share a Meal

Perhaps the most common date of all is the classic dinner date. Pennsylvania’s Americana Region’s restaurants offer lots of fun places to dine and a variety of cuisines. Of course, COVID-19 safety protocols require our restaurants to operate at limited capacity. Luckily, many of the region’s eateries offer outside seating with added lights and heaters to meet the seasonal changes. You can also opt for curbside pickup or takeout, and head to one of our local parks or recreation areas for a romantic picnic.

All Aboard

There’s nothing quite like a fall train ride. What could be better than taking in the colorful autumn landscapes with someone special? In Berks County, you’ve got your pick of themed excursions thanks to Allentown & Auburn Railroad, Colebrookdale Railroad, Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad, and WK&S Railroad. These companies offer daytime and evening train rides, each in itself a wonderful opportunity for a unique and memorable date. Check the railroad websites for details about the rides, such as departure times, length of the trips, and pricing.

If you prefer exploring Berks County at your own pace, consider taking a self-guided covered bridge tour, barn star art tour, or fall foliage drive. Make stops along the way at local shops, farm markets, breweries and the small towns that intersect your journey.

Grab a Drink

Pennsylvania’s Americana Region is home to some great wineries and breweries. Unwind in their relaxed atmospheres as you enjoy great conversations while sampling locally produced beers and wines.

Follow the Berks County Wine Trail with stops along the way at the Barn at Pinnacle Ridge Winery or elegant Folino Estates Vineyards.

For a wide assortment of brews, Chatty Monks Brewing Company, The Other Farm & Forge, and Broken Chair Brewery are all great options, and if you’re lucky, you may even catch live entertainment depending on the night you visit.

**Enjoy drinks responsibly and never drive while intoxicated.**
