Autumn is officially here. A crisp breeze in the air alludes to the upcoming winter and the leaves are approaching their peak season. There is so much to do this spooky season in Pennsylvania’s Americana Region. From festivals and concerts to lantern tours and fall foliage rides, there’s something for everyone to enjoy (even if you don’t like Halloween!)

Reading Liederkranz Oktoberfest

Pickfest Express

Heading to Boyertown's Pickfest this year? Join Colebrookdale Railroad's Pickfest Express, departing at 1,3, and 5 PM. Enjoy live music, burgers, hot dogs, and more while on board. Then, check out the free festival for more live music, art, and vendors. Celebrate everything Boyertown has to offer, from its rich heritage and agricultural significance to its thriving artistic community and nationally recognized rail line.

October 8th
Fall on the Farm at Rodale Institute

Free wagon tours, pumpkin painting, live music, apple picking, food trucks, and more await at Rodale Institute’s annual Fall on the Farm event. Take a walking tour to learn about the farm and stop by the Visitor Center to purchase specialty foods and organic treats that can’t be found in your grocery store. This family-friendly event runs from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Ghost Lantern Tours at Crystal Cave

Join guides dressed in Victorian clothing as you enter spooky Crystal Cave, taking part in a unique tour where stories are told about the haunted cave that are left out of normal tours. If your favorite holiday is Halloween, this is right up your alley. These lantern tours are offered on a limited basis during the last three weekends of October. Reservations are required, so call ahead before it’s too late.

IX Art Show: Imagine This 

Discover and appreciate new artwork at the IX Art Main Show, featuring over 90 artists selected by a panel of judges from across the globe. Many artists choose to paint or sketch at their spaces during the show, so you may have the chance to see them in action. If you are a night owl, take advantage of the opportunity to stroll through the Evening Showcase, celebrating imaginative artists from all mediums on Friday and Saturday night from 8:00 PM- 12:00 AM.

Reading Film Fest 

Experience a weekend of independent films and filmmakers from around the globe at the Reading Film Fest, including student films, shorts, documentaries, and feature films. Ticketholders will also receive special discounts at select restaurants in the area. This event is the perfect date night for your loved one or an outing for the family.

October 28th 
Autumn Splendor Fall Foliage Ride & Wine Tasting 

There’s no better way to experience fall foliage in Pennsylvania’s Americana Region than a train ride through the Secret Valley at dusk. Take in the gorgeous colors of the season while sampling various wines, apple butter, fresh apples, pumpkin spice almonds, and delicious meats and cheeses. All ages are welcome on this excursion, departing at 5:30 PM.

Take a trip to Hawk Mountain this fall to see the longest-running raptor migration count in the world! Late October offers the best raptor diversity, with most observations occurring between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. If you haven’t been able to see this migration before, now is the perfect time.
