You may have heard that the state of Pennsylvania has rebranded to "The Great American Getaway." The entire state is certainly an appropriate place to spend the 4th, but Pennsylvania's Americana Region (Reading & Berks County) should be at the top of your list. We may be biased, but we can't think of a better place to celebrate our independence! Here are 5 great places to watch fireworks in and near Berks County this summer. 

 

Sensory Fireworks at Reading Public Museum

1. Reading Public Museum- July 3rd 

 

Join the Reading Public Museum for Sensory-Friendly Fireworks on Wednesday, July 3! This event is perfect for all ages who may need a calmer fireworks experience. This indoor display will feature stunning graphics in the state-of-the-art planetarium dome accompanied by patriotic music. You can even bring your own blankets to sit on the floor of the Neag Planetarium dome! Crafts will also be provided for those who need a break at any point during the show.

There will be three shows, 4:00 pm, 5:30 pm, and 7 pm. Each show lasts about an hour. 

 

2. High Point Baptist Chapel - July 3rd 

Join High Point Baptist Chapel at 200 Chapel Road, Geigertown, PA, for a fun and FREE Independence Day Celebration! Starting at 6:30 PM, there will be carnival games, inflatables, hay rides, popcorn, and more. Enjoy food from Stampede Barbecue, Lani Hawaiian Ice, and Sammy's French Fries. The evening will conclude with fireworks over the lake.

2. Fireworks Express at Colebrookdale Railroad- July 4th 

 

Try this unique experience of taking a train to see a fireworks show! Ride the Colebrookdale Railroad to Pottstown's Memorial Park for their GoFourth Fireworks show. 

The train departs Boyertown at 7 PM. (No meal will be served on this excursion)

Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and wear appropriate footwear as passengers will be allowed to disembark from the train to enjoy the show from the park. Boarding for return to Boyertown will begin promptly after the show concludes.

3. Reading Fightin Phils MEGABLAST Fireworks- July 4th 

For a true "Americana" experience, watch a baseball game at the Reading Fightin Phils. Fireworks to follow after the game! 

 

4. West Reading Pool Independence Day Celebration- July 4th 

The West Reading Pool staff will have games, contests, prizes, music and more during the 4th of July weekend at the pool. 12 PM - 8 PM. 

 

5. 4th of July Celebration in Wyomissing- July 3rd & 4th 

Get ready for the Borough of Wyomissing's highly anticipated Independence Day Parade and Celebration, a true slice of Americana! The two-day celebration kicks off on July 3rd with a spectacular fireworks show, generously sponsored by ROG Orthodontics. The show starts at 10:00 PM, with fireworks being launched from the Wyomissing Pool. As a prelude to the fireworks, they will host a Moonlight Swim at the pool from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM, offering a refreshing way to enjoy the summer evening. The excitement continues on the 4th of July, starting with a bang—literally—as Tim Henrich fires off his 18th-century musket to commence the Firecracker Family Fun Run at 9:30 AM. At 10:00 AM sharp, the parade will step off, showcasing antique and classic cars, patriotic floats, marching bands, beauty pageant winners, the Reading Royals, and more.

6. Governor Mifflin Community Days- July 6th 

The 48th Annual Greater Governor Mifflin League Community Days run from Friday, June 28th through Saturday, July 6th. Enjoy live entertainment, carnival rides, games, food, and more. Their fireworks show is on July 6th at 10 PM between Cumru Elementary and The Intermediate School. 

 

7. Cherry Crest Adventure Farm- July 19th & July 26th 

End your day of fun at Cherry Crest with a spectacular fireworks show. Both shows begin at 9:30 PM.

Independence Day at Daniel Boone Homestead

 

Daniel Boone Homestead

Commemorate our Nation’s birthday at the Daniel Boone Homestead’s Independence Day event. Learn about the different kinds of troops who fought for America’s freedom during the Revolutionary War including the militia, Continentals, Dragoons, and Riflemen. Guided Boone House tours will be offered regularly throughout the day, as well as blacksmithing and gunsmithing demonstrations. There will also be plenty of activities for children, including a militia muster activity, colonial toys and games, and crafts.


4th of July at Hopewell Furnace

Join Hopewell Furnace for their annual celebration of Independence Day. Historic demonstrations throughout the day, including blacksmiths and fiber arts. There will be a children's tent with crafts, activities, and historic games. Stop by the Cast House for historic aluminum casting demonstrations. Event is free and family friendly!

A Flag Disposal Box will be available during the Celebration of Heroes and July 4th Celebration to dispose of worn-out American Flags, a proper flag retirement ceremony is being coordinated with a local BSA Scout Troop. Field of Honor is on display from July 1st to July 6th.
