When the summer heat gets unbearable, you don’t only have to be careful about keeping yourself cool – you also need to take your furry friends into account. Summer can be rough on your dogs, especially big and long-haired breeds that prefer the winter, so a great place to take them to help keep them cool and happy is Blue Marsh Lake. Your pup will love cooling off in the water and socializing with the other dogs.

For Nature Lovers

The scenic hiking trails crisscrossing Berks County provide a fantastic way to explore and appreciate the area’s natural ecosystem. Hike to the overlooks of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for fabulous views of the valley below and the wildlife above. Of course, there are those days when it’s just too hot for a hike. Instead, look to waterways like Blue Marsh Lake and Schuylkill River Water Trail to swim, kayak, fish and paddle. Cooling water and beautiful scenery make it a most pleasant way to spend the day.
