DANS at Green Hills

Located at 2444 Morgantown Road, Reading

Originally established in downtown Reading in 1989 by Dan Gallagher and Dan Smith, Dans at Green Hills remains a Reading treasure under new ownership. In fact, the restaurant expanded a few years ago when it moved to the 200 year old Green Hills Inn, where it’s known throughout the area for serving fine Contemporary American cuisine with a French flair.

Enjoy wonderful wine selections, along with steak, seafood, pasta and other impeccable fresh, seasonal dishes either indoors in four private dining rooms or out on the lovely new patio (weather permitting). Dans is open for dinner daily from 4pm to 9pm (8pm Sundays and Mondays).

Judy’s on Cherry

Located at 332 Cherry Street in Reading

Judy’s on Cherry is a local favorite, serving 5-star Mediterranean-inspired food at customer-friendly prices in the heart of downtown Reading. The former farmer’s market has been beautifully renovated and now features vaulted wood ceilings and relaxed surroundings. Judy’s is open for lunch Tuesday through Friday from 11:30am to 2pm and for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5pm to 9pm.

Enjoy freshly baked focaccia bread, gourmet pizzas, pastas and tapas, or try one of the delicious seasonal specials, like Roasted Lamb Shanks with Saffron Couscous and Kumquat Sauce with Pomegranate, or a perennial favorite like Three Cheese Ravioli with Lobster and Tomato Vodka Rosa Sauce.

The Peanut Bar Restaurant

Head over to a downtown Reading landmark, Jimmie Kramer’s Peanut Bar Restaurant, for beer, peanuts, great food and great fun. It was once featured on the Travel Channel and selected as one of USA Today’s Top 10 places in the country for wings. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 11:00am to10:30pm, Friday from 11:00am to 11:30pm, and Saturday from 12:00pm to 11:30pm.

For Our Seafood Lovers

Although they offer options for both seafood and non-seafood lovers, here are a few of our favorite restaurants in Berks County for fish:

  • Coastal Grille – If you’re craving coconut shrimp, grilled lobster tail, pan-seared scallops, fried calamari, or even Baja fish tacos, Coastal Grille is the place. The upscale yet casual environment offers a diverse selection of seafood and other specialties to please everyone in your lunch or dinner party. Find them at 2713 N. Meridian Blvd. from 11:00am until 9:00pm (10:00pm on Friday and Saturday).
  • Ugly Oyster Drafthaus – The Ugly Oyster is the oldest pub in Berks County, and yes, you can get your fill of oysters, littleneck clams, mussels and hot, steamed shrimp at their extensive raw bar. But there’s more great food that everyone will enjoy, including cheesesteaks, burgers, steaks and more seafood. They’re open daily from 11:30am (noon on Sunday) until 2:00am, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy seafood, good brews and a fun ambiance.

If you didn’t find something here to whet your appetite, we have many other Berks County restaurants listed at the Greater Reading Convention and Visitors Bureau’s website.
