It’s been almost 90 years since Jimmie Kramer, the child of Russian immigrants who came to America in the early 1900’s, opened a restaurant in the resort community of South Mountain. The year was 1924, the era was Prohibition and the establishment was knows as the Green Terrace Hotel. Fast forward to 1934, when the first legal liquor license in Reading was issued to the Central Cafe. As for the peanuts, they arrived in 1934, the same year that Annie, “Mom” Kramer arrived and brought her pots and pans. Today, grandson Michael, still holds court at the restaurant now known as Jimmie Kramer’s Peanut Bar Restaurant. The traditions continue!  Enjoy such dishes as the homemade cheese balls, “Aunty Kramer’s” old time favorites, fried crabcakes, wings, and pretzel pie.
